Queer Interest
This augmented reality experience is of special interest as it explores the history of Amsterdam's countercultures, explicitly including the stories of queer activists who were part of the city's legacy of resistance.
Spuistraat in central Amsterdam was a stronghold of the squatter movement in the 1970s and ’80s, but over the past decade it has been spruced up and handed over to property developers. This augmented reality experience brings resistance back to the street, to the place it once belonged. You can download the Lost Hood app at the DocLab Exhibition, but the natural habitat of this project is the Spuistraat itself, which is located just around the corner of the exhibition.
The recollections of those involved and the visual language of protest form span multiple countercultures, including squatters, Kabouters, graffiti artists, and queer activists. Local institutions such as the Vrankrijk squat and art gallery Vrij Paleis are participating the project, ensuring that the urban landscape becomes a living archive of resistance and community.
The guided tours do not require registration or a ticket. For other IDFA screenings, tickets are €13.50 (regular) or €8.00 (students/CJP), available via festival.idfa.nl.
